SUMSS Catalogue News
Mar 11, 2008: Version 2.1 (sumsscat.Mar-11-2008) released!
This release corrects a bug in which some bright sources (S>500 mJy) were missing from the version 2.0 catalogue. The catalogue now contains 211063 sources.
Aug 30, 2007: Version 2.0 (sumsscat.Aug-8-2007) released!
In this release we have catalogued the complete set of 629 SUMSS mosaics covering
the entire southern sky with dec.<-30 deg. and |b|>10 deg.
This version contains 210,412 sources.
We have addressed the issues found before the Version 1.7 catalogue release which were outlined below.
For further information about this release and the MGPS-2 compact source catalogue please consult the
Jun 5, 2006: Version 1.7 (sumsscat.Jun-1-2006) released!
Added a further 67 mosaics to the catalogue. The catalogue now contains
205,676 sources in 602 mosaics and covers a little over 7000 deg.^2 of the
- In this version we have filled a small 0.5 degree square gap centered
on the south celestial pole.
- We have discovered an error in source positions for sources
within 1 degree of the
south celestial pole. Objects in both the images and the catalogue in this
positions in error by up to 10 arcseconds more than the quoted error
in the catalogue. The 150 catalogue sources in this region are affected.
We will repair this problem wth the next catalogue release.
- We have discovered that some sources in the
catalogue north of dec.=-40 deg. have a
total flux density quoted up to 20% higher than the correct value.
This problem affects point sources with measured
position angle in excess of around
30 degrees and is related to a small bug in our fitting routine.
This error affects this and all previous
releases of the catalogue. We will solve this problem in the next catalogue
- This version of the catalogue has had all objects within 10 degrees
of the galactic plane removed. We are analysing images
within 10 degrees of the galactic plane and will catalogue these
with the next release.
Aug 8, 2005: Version 1.6 (sumsscat.Aug-6-2005) released!
Added a further 64 new mosaics to the catalogue. The catalogue now contains
199,208 sources in 535 mosaics which cover
about 7000 deg.^2 of the southern sky.
Jul 9, 2004: Version 1.5 (sumsscat.Jul-8-2004) released!
Added a further 21 new mosaics to the catalogue.
March 26, 2004: Version 1.4 (sumsscat.Mar-9-2004) released!
Added around 30 new mosaics to the catalogue. There are now 172,476 sources
in 5500 degrees squared.
October 27, 2003: Version 1.3 (sumsscat.Oct-27-2003) released!
This version has around 165,000 sources and a sky coverage of 5100
square degrees. There are some mosaics closer than 10 deg. from the
galactic plane. These have been left for now as there is little galactic
source contamination in these mosaics.
July 3, 2003: Version 1.2 (sumsscat.Jul-1-2003) released!
This version has around 20,000 extra sources and a sky coverage of 4500
April 9, 2003: Version 1.1 (sumsscat.Apr-8-2003) released!
This version of the catalogue contains a few minor bug fixes over version
We now quote declination to a precision of 0.1 arcseconds rather than
A single duplicate source at R.A.=22 56 02.37 Dec.=-89 17 33.25
has been removed.
About 30 spurious catalogue entries have been removed.
Version 1.0 of the catalogue can be found on the archive page.
